Oh My!

Oh My, what do you say when your 3 y/o asks you about dying? I was not exactly prepared for this conversation at nap time yesterday.

Preston: Momma where did you come from?
Momma: From my Mommy.
Preston: Who's your Mommy?
Momma: Myrna.
Preston: Who's Myrna?
Momma: Myrna was my Mommy. Remember the picture we were looking at the other day?
Preston: Where is your Mommy?
Momma: She's in heaven.
Preston: Did she die?
Momma: Yes she did, she became very sick, died & went to heaven.
Preston: Am I going to die Momma?
Momma: Not for a long, long time sweetie. We all die eventually & then live with Jesus.
Preston: I'm going to die tomorrow Momma. And everyone is going to be soooo sad
because I died.
Momma: Oh no Preston, you are not going to die anytime soon, I love you too much for you to
die & go to heaven just yet. You're going to live a long, long time. Now let's take our
nap. Momma loves you sweetie.

*** Wow, talk about a conversation that was beginning to feel very strange. I know toddlers are very inquisitive, but when dying becomes the subject sometimes it's very hard to know what to say & what not to say. Then when Preston said he was going to die tomorrow, I could have cried my eyes out right then & there. I cannot even begin to imagine what parents go through while & after losing a child.

God please grant me the gift of enjoying Preston's life for many & many years to come. I accept the fact that Preston first belongs to you Lord, then to Justin & I. Thank you Lord for giving us this beautiful opportunity to raise Preston Lee in your ways & not the ways of the world. Please give us the help & direction that we need as parents each day. Thank you Lord.

Oh Angie, his little mind just runs on overtime. We have had way more talks like that with Jaxon than I ever wanted after losing his grandparents last year. And just today he looked at the roses Shane bought Brandi for their anniversary and said "Did you know that granma Vicky sent these? She sent them from heaven, she loves flowers." My heart broke! He will never get to know her or she him. So sad. You answered Prestons questions very well, and yes, Praise the Lord for our children.

Oh, My. Angie -- you handled that situation with the utmost of maternal instinct, and what more can you do?!? I think God gives us those kinds of discussions so we, too reflect on how our lives can change in the blink of an eye. Praise God for little fingers, little toes, and little prayers...!

Smoochies!
